God’s unity

“I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me” (John 17:21, NLT).

We tend to think of God as being separate from us and many even think of him as far away, watching earth from a distance. Even those who know “God is watching” aren’t always fully aware of his presence.

Jesus prayed for believers to be one just as he and the Father are one. The unity of the Father, Son and Spirit is a unity we share, which means we shouldn’t think of ourselves as separate but together in a union of relationship that is closer than we can really imagine. We have true togetherness with him because oneness and unity is who he is.
