“And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will” (Romans 8:27, NLT).

God is Spirit – we can’t see him and can’t understand how everything works so we tend to anthropomorphize him. In other words, we think he’s like us. I believe this tendency of ours has led to more misconceptions about God than anything else. One of those misconceptions is thinking we can offend or hurt God by our sin and we must somehow make it up to him (as if we could do that anyway).

God knows us – he knew the human heart before he even created us and his plan from the foundation of the world was to send Jesus as our savior. God hates sin, but he isn’t offended (the way we think of it), hurt or surprised by it. Jesus took our sin on himself and conquered it on the cross. God our Father knows our hearts, both good and bad, and the Spirit is right there with us as we pray, in harmony with God’s will as he supports us, helping us continue to conquer sin daily.
