God values us

A pair of House Sparrows

“‘What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows’” (Luke 12:6-7, NLT).

For one reason or another, people of all ages feel worthless at times. The sad thing is, these feelings are usually caused by the people they love putting them down, calling them names and telling them they don’t amount to much and never will. Women in particular have been made to feel second class or worse due to cultural ideas and unfortunately, from misinterpreted scriptures and misconceptions about God.

Jesus knew this. It must have hurt him to look in people’s eyes and see the pain inflicted by these negative cultural attitudes. What must they have thought as they heard him say God values them much more than the birds he daily cares for—helpless creatures who seem to serve no purpose and who die unnoticed every day. When the world tells us we don’t matter, remember the birds and how God thinks of us—important, valued and loved.
