Our independence day

“He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control” (Philippians 3:21, NLT).

Today in the U.S. we celebrate our Independence day as a nation. We wave the red, white and blue, set off fireworks and grill the great American burger. It’s a day of patriotism and remembering the struggle to become a free country. It’s also a good day to remember all those who gave so much in that struggle.

Another independence day is coming, one which will liberate all men and women from the bondage of these mortal bodies. Great gifts though they are, as they allow us to live and breathe and experience all God has provided us, they aren’t permanent, merely on loan. And they do sometimes cramp our style. In many ways, we are very tied down by them. In his love and power, he will one day give us bodies just like his and that will be the most incredible independence of all.
