“The disciples were terrified and amazed. ‘Who is this man?’ they asked each other. ‘When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!’” (Luke 8:25, NLT).
Jesus told the disciples a lot about himself, but they were a hard bunch to convince. Thomas didn’t really believe until after the resurrection when he saw the scars on Jesus’ hands. This incident on the boat would have been hard to ignore. Not only did he walk on the water, but he calmed the storm with just a couple of words.
“Who is this man?” is still a valid question and many don’t really know the answer. The question has been asked of random people on a city street and the replies are all over the place. Everyone must see for themselves and answer in their own minds, some through the storms and some through the scars. The master and commander of the universe is alive and well. Take courage, he is here. Get to know who he really is.
Thanks Tammy, I just gave a sermon on this based on John’s account of this miracle…one of the 7 that he builds his gospel on “that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you might have life through His name” John 20:30-31.In this particular miracle He demonstrates His power over our fears…”It is I, be not afraid” John 6:20. He is always available to the helpless and fearful. He walks over the sea of life to where we are in our times of need to save us from drowning.
Amen, thanks Richard.
