God is first and last

“This is what the Lord says—Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies: ‘I am the First and the Last; there is no other God’” (Isaiah 44:6, NLT).

Getting the last word in an argument is really important to some people, but someone finally has to stop or the argument would never end. Holding out for the last word comes down to pride, a problem for most of us. It can keep fights going for years, with neither side backing down no matter how much it hurts. Pride can keep families and friends apart, when all it would take is a little humility to bring everyone back together.

God will have the last word but not because of pride. Not only will he have the last word, he is the last word. He is the only God, the first and last. He started everything and he will end everything. All the speculations, arguments and questions about him, his existence, life and how it began—everything will be answered and put to rest when we see him face to face. Our mouths will at last be shut as he gives us his last word on earth and our  lives here: I AM the Alpha and the Omega.

  1. Who Do We Listen To?

It may seem strange to ask ourselves to whom do we listen. We listen to those of a similar mind, who are expanding our own perspective or understanding. We listen to what is entertaining, familiar, relevant, helpful.

If a person has wisdom, he or she will be able to listen to thoughts, ideas, concepts outside of their comfort zone. They glean the good from wide sources and reject the bad, without condemnation.

So, wisdom is key, a valuable resource to pursue and attain.

The first few chapters of the Book of Proverbs (in the Bible) emphasize the value of wisdom. To be truly successful, wisdom is essential!
