“But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:13, NLT).

People don’t go to church like they used to. Religion in general and Christianity in particular aren’t very attractive to a lot of folks, perhaps in part because it’s become more about what you’re supposed to do rather than who you believe in. Being a Christian is first and foremost about Jesus, who he is, what he has done and continues to do and who we are in him.

Being united with Jesus in and by the Holy Spirit is how everything happens in the life of the believer. He helps us transfer our trust in the things of the world to Christ. He gives us the gift of grace to participate in his life, death and resurrection which allows us to participate in the life of the Father. Rather than living, judging and being judged by a set of rules and laws we can’t really obey, unity with Jesus by his blood is about joyfully living his life with him, which is our real life, where we become who we really are.
